Due to #spam, the following server is recommended for #Fediblock: * puls.social I have reported multiple accounts to the admin for spam. After days of waiting to say if the admin would act on the report, he has failed to moderate his server in any way. Looking at the admin's account, it seems he's been inactive on the #Fediverse since June 1, 2023. I have good reason to believe that this server has been abandoned by the admin. Continuing to federate allows a vector for spam and #abuse.

So I've been running my own #Snac instance for the past week and I have to say that I'm actually loving it. It hardly takes up any resources and the inbuilt web interface is easily configurable with nothing more than #CSS . There are some things that folk used to running #Mastodon might not like. For example it does not show any follower or following numbers to any instances. So people using Mastodon will see 0 followers and 0 following even though those Snac uses may have 100's of followers . You do get a people tab on the snac interface that is just a list divided into people following you and people you follow but no numbers. This is an intentional design feature by the author @grunfink@comam.es who stated. > I haven't implemented a simple count of following / followers on purpose; I consider all metrics in network media inherently toxic, because it's a way of comparing the relative success of people. This is also why, as seen from other Fediverse implementations, snac accounts always report 0 / 0 connections. Also not all features work with android / iOS apps but most of the essentials do. I occasionally use #Tusky when I'm not just using the web interface for Snac which I just find easier. I think I will be staying with this fantastic lightweight piece of software and look forward to see what new features get added in the future. A wish would be to have a way of importing followers from Mastodon to Snac, which I think the dev is working on at the moment. Oh and I nearly forgot to say that you can import the CSV file of people that you are following through the command line and it's fairly simple to do too. Unsolicited opinion: If #Mastodon wants to be a part of the #Fediverse that encourages small #selfhosted instances to be part of the whole, then it has to be a lean system able to be installed on second-hand/hand-me-down hardware and it should run reasonably well. ElasticSearch/Java is a barrier to that. It is a huge memory hog compared to the rest of the system. #footiMac #Debian

I wished to all that is real I hadn't used the dot Live TLD for my self-hosted Mastodon instance. Domain renewal costs are getting out of control and no way to change domain names and keep posts. I could spin up a new instance and then migrate my accounts over but lose everything I've posted, replies, etc esp @hashtaggames@oldfriends.live account. Be nice if Mastodon and Federation had a way to migrate domain names. If the IO domain TLD goes defunct, probably won't, some big instances could be in a bind. Luckily, those servers will have a couple years to transition, if it does, per ICANN policies. Still. If wishes were dollars, we would all be rich. #MastoAdmin #Federation #Fediverse .

Absolutely none of them are removing spam from their servers nor have they shown any willingness to moderate whatsoever.

I've just setup my own #snac instance and made a test post but I'm not sure anyone can see it ? I'm not even sure it's left the server here? I have the web interface all working and I think I needed to open port 8001 on my firewall too. My user is @justine@snac.smithies.me.uk . Inzwischen haben fast zwei Drittel der Follower von @heiseonline@social.heise.de #Mastodon mindestens in Version 4.3.0 und ich bilde mir ein, erste Folgen zu erkennen. Wir sehen womöglich wirklich wieder mehr #Traffic – heute liegt das #Fediverse bislang bspw. vor #Twitter. Ist natürlich eine Momentaufnahme und X macht immer große Sprünge, aber noch bekommen ja auch viele auf Mastodon weiter jene Vorschaukarten zu sehen, bei denen wir einen Klick darauf nicht zuordnen können. Das behebt das jüngste Update.
