Where is ernes? What is going on? There are so many things to do on kbin. Please, I want information. What is going on again? Why can't someone take over the project?
Who controls karab.in? it has not turned on for several weeks or even months.
cross-posted from: https://swg-empire.de/post/825076 > Migrate Lemmy server to mbin > > I'm thinking of migrating my Lemmy-Server over to Mbin so that I can follow Mastodon users as well. I know that there are tools to export/import the community and magazine subscriptions. First, I think Ernest has done a fantastic job and I've been rooting for him this whole time. But it's becoming clear it's all too much for him without the support of a larger team. Over the last several months there have been multiple posts about the spam problems on this instance, both here and on other instances. We've been fortunate so far they haven't simply defederated us. Now when I go to the Hot page it's 12 hours out of date. It's with a heavy heart I looked into a kbin fork mentioned in another thread in this magazine: Mbin. GitHub: [https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin](https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin) Instance list: [https://fedidb.org/software/mbin](https://fedidb.org/software/mbin) The largest instance: [https://fedia.io/](https://fedia.io/) I'll miss you Kbin. It's been good. Thanks Ernest! It's not the purpose of this post to support any particular instance. Feel free to mention your own alternatives below.
Abandoned large magazines are being bombarded with spam and admins are nowhere to be seen it seems. Hundreds of spam bot posts have not been deleted for months, see /infosec /internet /opensource /science, etc. and there are some posts about admins not responding to reports. So whats happening here? I see that non-admins are banning spammers from their communities in mod log but thats not an instance wide ban are any other instances even federating with kbin after this barrage of unmoderated spam?
There seems to be a few waves of users created just to post spam specifically in kbin. It's quite strange as the posts are so obvious and they keep getting downvoted. I'm also blocking the users but I can't see a way to report them. Is there a better way to handle this situation?
Hey guys, I'm toying with the idea of deploying a personal kbin instance in Azure. Has anyone done this and have any tips to share? What kind of costs am I looking at?
[@kbin](https://kbin.social/u/kbin) kbin is constantly returning 50x and 404 errors to me for the last few weeks. It's literally unusable, even for browsing. What's going on? Is it just me? should I move on to a different instance? [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin)
I just had 2 play over themselves on my feed. I'd rather not block channels or users just to stop it. Videos should never autoplay in the threads
### Interpreting a Dream Transition from Serene Water to a Shooting Scene - Insights Needed ### Recently, I had a vivid dream that started with me standing beside a calm lake, and then abruptly shifted to a scene where I heard gunshots in the distance. This transition from a peaceful water setting to a potentially dangerous situation was both intriguing and unsettling. I've read an article ([https://psychosick.com/dream-about-shooting/](https://psychosick.com/dream-about-shooting/)) that provided some insights, but I'm curious to hear more interpretations. What could this shift in my dream signify? Has anyone experienced something similar, and how did you interpret it? I'm looking for perspectives on the symbolism of water and sudden, jarring transitions in dreams. Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated! > Artemis was stopped in its tracks because the source code hasn’t been released, and the app is only set to work with Artemis Camp. The two workarounds used to get the project going have taken a turn for the worse, because all of Artemis development depends on one person, and one server
The **Unofficial Kbin Guide** is now available! [https://unofficial-kbin-guide.surge.sh/](https://unofficial-kbin-guide.surge.sh/) Let me know of any feedback, update requests, or corrections. I'd like to do a poll in a magazine, basically like they are on reddit. But better of course, not limited to 6 entries and maybe even have links or pictures in the entries. Currently there's no such functionality in kbin and I'm not expecting there to be one soon. What would be the best way to do it with what's available now? All suggestions welcome, thanks!
Hey, I'm knew to KBIN, and already like it! Question and issues: * How do I set a custom display name for my profile? * Is it possible to edit my username? Thank you in advance for answering. [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin)
I still don't get this part of kbin. Anyway, I hope you are having a great day. [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin)
I'm a mod over at lemmy.ca/c/torontobluejays, and a subscriber there who subs from Kbin mentioned in a post that they have not been able to see the bot-posted game day threads that are posted for each days Blue Jays Game. I've created an account here to confirm that, and it's the same for me as well. I also don't see any relevant settings to enable bot content. Can any of the Kbin guru's here help out?
Fairly new to Kbin, for some reason my "notifications" are always empty. If someone responds to one of my comments, I don't see anything that tells me that they did. Both my notifications and messages are permanently empty. Is that expected behavior? If not, how do I fix it?
A blogpost I made about my experience on Kbin. Any feedback would be appreciated as someone who is new to blogging. Thank you
As some of you may know, szmer.info is a domain that's basically full of spammers, so I blocked it. However upon doing so a thread ([https://kbin.social/m/technology@lemmy.world/t/344185/I-m-worried-that-in-the-future-we-will-be-forced](https://kbin.social/m/technology@lemmy.world/t/344185/I-m-worried-that-in-the-future-we-will-be-forced)) I was reading basically disappeared from my feed, and on reloading it all the comments disappeared. I went through the comments and I don't think any of the users were from szmer.info, so I'm wondering what triggered this behaviour. Is this a bug or did I miss out on something? Thanks!
Feel intensely unmotivated to work on kbin userstyle 🛏️🛏️🛏️ Got started with it , worked pretty much nonstop since joining , yet nowhere close to done Only so much i can do with userstyles , thought maybe forking instead so i can rearrange HTML , but [instructions for setting up local env](https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/wiki/Admin-Bare-Metal-Guide) assume linux machine [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin)
So this has.me confused for some time now: On kbin, I can follow other Fediverse users and see their Mastodon posts and all, but the accounts I followed do not appear on my Microblog feed. What's up with that? How am I supposed to interact with the followed accounts? I love that kbin wants to embrace everything Activitypub has to offer, but I didn't quite get behind this one.
**TIL** that you can view kbin posts via RSS by subscribing to [https://kbin.social/rss](https://kbin.social/rss) in your preferred rss reader. [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin) [#rss](https://kbin.social/tag/rss) [#TIL](https://kbin.social/tag/TIL)
I've had a number of items I've wanted to save for future reference. I can't seem to find an option on the Furefox mobile site that allows me to do that. Sure I can open in browser and bookmark, but I'd rather they all be under my account here. Thanks in advance.
I'm curious about the demographic makeup of Kbin. As we are still in it's infancy I feel that most lean towards a certain way, so I made this survey just now to find out. I encourage you to join in, and you can skip any and every question if you so choose. You can view the results at the bottom of the page.
So i've been hoping onto the Random Magazines I find the look of on Kbin but a lot of them seem to be empty and made over a month ago, Why is this? [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin)
When I first joined Kbin I didn't think nothing of it, I had already been enjoying and using Lemmy as well as Mastodon and other parts of the Fediverse, So I knew what I was roughly getting into but didn't release how much Kbin had to offer. So here coming up to hour 24 of my experience so far I hope to keep on using this platform into the future. First of all Kbin is a bit more complex than just another Reddit clone as it brings both Reddit's 'Alternative' Lemmy as well as Twitters 'Alternative' Mastodon together in one place. If you want to do a Mastodon / Twitter like post use the Microblogging feature but if you want to do a Lemmy / Reddit like post use the Threads Tab. This is one thing I was confused about and guessed wrong the first time I used the site. What about Magazines, Well I'm not a huge fan of the name Magazines and much prefer the Lemmy name for them Communities, These are like Subreddits in Reddit. After using these for a while I started trying to find some of the Lemmy communities I enjoyed on there, Sadly if someone hasn't tried finding it before it's hard to find and once you do it doesn't have any previous posts making it have no content on it to being with. What about the People Tab? Well the people section is great, if you like seeing what someone talks about you can check out there profile and follow them allowing you to keep up with what they get up too. There's also some other cool features that really sealed the deal for me such as the Statistics Tab in Settings allowing you to look at how many Posts, Comments and Votes you've had across your profile, Also if your an Ex-Reddit user don't worry there's Reputation or as you knew it as, Karma allowing each person to have a usefulness score on the platform. For my 24 hrs on a new platform, I'm glad i've learned so much and hope to keep using the platform into the future, I'm glad I will be able to have friends message through other Fediverse Instances like Mastodon or Lemmy allowing them to have there preferred platform it makes me feel as if the Fediverse is what the Internet was always meant to be. I would love to hear about your experiences across the Fediverse.
not right, not left - hide side bar yeah how about that? especially given how this place wants to stick it to reddit. [\#kbin](https://kbin.social/tag/kbin)
As current state, even within Fediverse, browsing contents from other Fediverse like Mastodon still does not feel quite the same. Of course, It's a different social media platform so it's expected that, you will need 1 Reddit account and 1 Twitter account. But in Fediverse, do we need to do the same?
My proposal for per user content filtering by language. Please comment!
On the [kbin.pub](https://kbin.pub/en). It said: > > > It can communicate with many other ActivityPub services, including Mastodon, Lemmy, Pleroma, Peertube. > > I thought Mastodon (and maybe other federative platforms) are *very* different from kbin, in terms of the intended uses and functionalities. How do I interact with it? When I make a thread on /m/kbin, what does it do on Mastodon?
TL;DR: I made a styled version of Reddit for Kbin instances for people participating in the reddit migration. Inspired mostly by Old Reddit, but it actually has a dark mode!
Now that Lemmy was hacked pretty badly, I started thinking how much kbin is tested for possible vulnerabilities? What’s your stance on the idea of volunteering white hats testing the app in bug bounty style and reporting found vulnerabilities before some bad actor does? [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/ernest) I think there’s plenty of professionals here who would do this pro-bono.
yo idk if this is the right place to put this, so sorry if it's not. Iv been really trying to figure this place out and honestly it feels like they made things overly complicated. I understand the magazines and the federated stuff I guess, maybe. But what the hell is the difference between posts and threads. Also I have noticed that sometimes I go into a magazine that says it has posts and threads and there is nothing there. Just need a little help. I don't want to go back to reddit.
That includes images, and both on mobile and PC.
