I would say though that Turkey is unlikely to voluntarily exit NATO. Its military is currently too reliant on Western armaments, and its military industry exports to the West.

Also, historically Turkey has always aimed on playing a balancing act between bigger world powers. It has asked for BRICS membership, but if it can help it, it'll keep itself a NATO member at the same time. Perhaps distantly so, but still officially a member.

This also secures it in playing provocation games with Greece, and insult games with Israel, which it partly does to appease its nationalist and conservative population.

The only way I see Turkey exiting NATO is if NATO ousts it (which will end up creating huge problems for the alliance, as Turkey is the second biggest military force in NATO, and the US bases in Turkey are considered of great strategic importance in relation to Russia and the Middle East), or if Turkey is pressured by its new partners to leave NATO (which BRICS is unlikely to do, as it would damage their credibility as a solution to US global hegemony). There's also a third way, where the West commits some sort of unimaginably grave insult to Turkey, that inflames emotions in the country and forces Turkey to leave NATO voluntarily.

    Lol what?

NATO was created to protect Europe from the USSR continuing to advance after WW2. Even though the USSR had no plans to advance at all, and the allies knew it. Churchill and Truman were ardent anticommunists though, and were making plans to invade the USSR, so NATO was essentially an offensive alliance. Churchill and Truman proceeded to completely ruin the relations of the West with the USSR to create the conditions for NATO to be born as a "defensive alliance".

NATO has NEVER been used as a defensive alliance. On one hand you could say that maybe its purpose of deterrence is working really well. On the other hand, NATO has been involved in a bunch of offensive wars, notably against Iraq, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia.

NATO members are not in any way surrounded by hostile belligerent nations, with very few exceptions. Greece and Turkey is the only real example, but both are members, which means in a war NATO won't get involved. Poland and the Baltics claim they joined in to protect themselves from Russia, but they've had excellent relations with Russia post-USSR. On the contrary, the moment they joined, they started being themselves belligerent with Russia.

NATO's article 5 ensures that if a madman comes to power in any single nuclear-wielding nation, and presses the button, then every single nuclear power will also press the button at the same time.

NATO is neither necessary, nor good.

That's what they are trying to do with tarrifs. They are trying to make China less profitable for domestic businesses, so when the time comes to completely sever ties, it'll be an easier pill to swallow.

We should not forget that manufacturing is not the king of capital in the US anymore. It's corporations like Google and Facebook, which really don't need China as much, as say Apple or General Motors.

Tucker Carlson being ousted from Fox may have helped Republicans realize Fox isn't that great, and may partly explain why the Republican % is much lower than the Democrats.

Not that Tucker Carlson is much better in his views, but at least he did try to break the bubble and brought people on his show to talk about things Republicans would never even heard, like pro-Palestinian views.

To me it seems that most Republicans have tended to get their news from independent media in the last few years, which is why conservative Youtube channels, like Alex Jones (before his demise) or Judge Napolitano (more recent), are so popular.

Very significant that they've actually made one that works. That's a big leap. But as far as I know, we are still years behind being able to mass produce and implement them. There's a few reasons:

    1. They are far more energy-intensive

    2. They generate a lot more heat. If we solve 1. we might be able to solve this to an extent.

    3. Theoretical designs are much bigger in size to electronic chips.

    4. Due to size constraints they can process less information than electronic chips currently. While light is faster than electrons (and wavelength modulation could be used in the future to convey more complex information than 1s and 0s), photonic chips currently have less pathways than electronic chips, so less information can be processed simultaneously.

    5. They require constant callibration to ensure the light source and receiver are perfectly alligned. This makes them very impractical to use for the average user. Even the vibrations inside a desktop computer, due to its fans, can be a problem. They are nigh impossible to use in portable devices, industrial machinery or vehicles.

    6. They are currently really expensive to make, but I'm guessing that's because we are still prototyping. The materials and process can actually turn out to be cheaper than electronic chips.

    Anime:

Hayao Miyazaki is a marxist, and almost all his works have some marxist undertone. Castle in the Sky (1986) is probably the best one. Its central theme is workers' struggle. Miyazaki stated that it was inspired by the coal miner strikes in UK at the time.

The Leader (2019) is a Chinese anime depicting Karl Marx's life. Pretty good!

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009-2010): Every storyline basically boils down to how capitalism tries to hypocritically justify itself to wash away the horrific consequences of greed. This is the original story, redone to remove fillers and be closer to the manga. Generally considered the superior version to the 2003-2004 series.

    Non-anime cartoons and animations:

A Bug's Life (1998): Ants resisting imperialism from outside and the oppressing upper classes from inside.

The Mystery Of The Third Planet (1981): Considered to be one of the best animated films of all time. Produced in the Soviet Union. Has a lot of positive themes about accepting others, respecting nature, working together. Not explicitly marxist in nature, but will leave you feeling warm. Has a kick-ass soundtrack. Try to find the original Russian version.

Chicken Run (2000): Chickens organizing an escape from their farm. While it tries to spoof The Great Escape, it can also act as a tale of revolution of the workers against the bourgeois.

    Live-action:

Snow-Piercer: both the movie and series are meant to depict a worker revolt.

Parasite (2019): same creator as snow-piercer. I won't say anything about it, except that it's excellent.

The Young Karl Marx (2017): the early life of Karl Marx leading up to the writing of the communist manifesto.

Andor (2022): It's a Disney Star Wars series, but it's actually quite excellent. Its an antifascist masterpiece to the core.

Starship Troopers (1997): based on the fascist-loving book by Heinlein, director Neuemeier turns it into a satirizing exposition of fascism. Its main theme is how the regime will fill you with ideal notions about its greatness, take you in to serve it, then spit you out when it has sucked the life out of you.

The Grapes of Wrath (1940): Depressing, but watching this will fire up the revolutionary in you.

The Demosucks are banking on the "left" voting for The Cop, simply on the merit that she's not the Orange Man. They probably will lose a significant % of those votes from the people who are actual human beings with a moral compass, that recognize Israel is being assisted by the US to commit multiple genocides. But it's very likely their internal polls show they'll gain just as much votes from the anti-Trump crowd, so they don't care.

Besides, you can't be a US politician going for office without the backing of the Israel lobby.

Honestly though, on the bright side, if the US keeps backing Israel so hard, Israel will very likely self-destruct and will take down the US with it. They are both already getting more and more isolated diplomatically.

There's a more serious threat here.

If Russia takes Pokrovsk, it can use it to expand outwards and encircle Ukrainians fighting in northern Donbass. There's a reason that area has been stationary for so long, and that's because Russia hasn't been doing much to try and advance there. It's likely they are waiting for the fall of Pokrovsk to start. The Vovchansk attack might have also been a way to not only secure the passage to Belgorod, but also to tie down Ukrainian forces in the general area to be encircled.

Furthermore, beyond Pokrovsk there's literally no prepared defenses. I believe Russia will push to Pokrovsk before the end of the year and will look to immediately make an advance further west to the Dnieper region, to capitalize on the lack of defenses.

Russia has been shifting from attritionary positional warfare to maneuver warfare over the past month. The Russian generals likely believe that the Ukrainian army has reached its breaking point and can no longer mount effective defense anywhere.

We've been seeing more and more large pincer advances using mobile and armored units, unlike the previous offenses with small infantry groups supported by 1 or 2 APCs or tanks. There's been 4 large encirclements the past 2 weeks alone: 1 in Ugledar, that has been liquidated, 1 in New York (which the Ukrainians managed to break out from), 1 in the northwest Kursk area (created last Friday) and 1 to the north of Kurakhova (almost completed). There's also an ongoing attempt to create a large encirclement on the east bank of Askol river (north of Karlovka).

To me, that shift in tactics speaks to a larger offensive, that will probably come towards the end of October, all along the frontline. Likely the aim will be to take Pokrovsk, cut off the Ukrainian formations in Kursk, and make advancements towards Zaporozhie city, while trapping Ukrainian formations manning defenses on the front.

The main points: * Apparently, the direct cause was Japan raising its interest rates. Apparently investors globally used to borrow yen (which had low interest rates) and then invest elsewhere, turning a quick profit on the difference between the yen's interest rate and the return of the investment. When the yen's interest rate went up, a bunch of investors started selling off their yen assets, which carried over to the US market. * The issue was exacerbated by recent reports of US economic shrinkage. * Most stocks and all major indexes have dropped significantly * Tech companies particularly affected. Especially Nvidia, Apple and Tesla. Also, US-based and Taiwan-based chip manufacturers. * Cryptos are crashing, as investors are liquidating assets * Japanese and Korean stock markets were also severely affected directly, with similar downwards spirals. * European markets started getting affected as well. I have no idea about the yen actually being the culprit to this. I'd say it's probably a contributing factor or a catalyst. But we've been seeing the US tech companies faltering for some time now, after the US initiated a trade war with China. Chinese tech companies have been making huge strides in the past year alone, while Western tech companies remained stagnant or regressed. My interpretation, at least as far as the fire-sale involving US tech companies, is that they've been losing ground to China for some time, and they've been underperforming in the stock market for a while (recall that Nvidia's stock has been dropping for the past 2 weeks or so). Whatever arbitrary event caused Wall Street investors to start dumping their stocks, the recent poor performance of American tech companies made them a prime target for unloading stocks first. In essence, the US tried to start a tech and trade war with China and ended up shooting its own foot. Meanwhile, China yet again proven to be taking the right actions. Worth noting, that there's talks that the US Federal Reserve could have taken actions to prevent this crash being so severe, but they didn't. The Fed says there's still time to act and there's nothing to worry about, without elaborating further. This is entirely my own speculation, but it's quite possible that a crash was expected and was allowed to unfold to blow up in Trump's face when elected. It just happened a few months earlier than expected. Edit: I'm not an economist, and I'm not involved in finances, so if anyone would like to correct me on anything, feel free. Also, apologies for using CNBC, but it was the only place I found that listed the events neatly, without dressing them up (and with minimal intrusion of Cookies notifications)

    https://www.israelhayom.com/2024/06/27/germanys-unprecedented-citizenship-law-requires-recognizing-israels-right-to-exist/

    >In a significant move to reshape its immigration policies, Germany is set to implement a new citizenship law on Thursday that explicitly requires applicants to acknowledge Israel's right to exist. This reform, spearheaded by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's socially liberal government, aims to streamline the naturalization process while simultaneously addressing growing concerns about antisemitism and far-right sentiment in the country. >Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized the dual nature of the new law, stating, "Anyone who shares our values and makes an effort can now get a German passport more quickly and no longer has to give up part of their identity by giving up their old nationality." However, she also underscored the stringent requirements, adding, "But we have also made it just as clear: anyone who does not share our values cannot get a German passport. We have drawn a crystal-clear red line here and made the law much stricter than before." >The reform, which allows dual citizenship for first-generation migrants and reduces the waiting time for naturalization to five years, comes amid a complex political landscape. Germany has witnessed a surge in antisemitic incidents, with Felix Klein, the government commissioner for fighting antisemitism, reporting an alarming 83% increase in hate crimes against Jewish people in 2023, totaling 4,782 incidents. >To address these concerns, the interior ministry has introduced new elements to the citizenship test. "New test questions have been added on the topics of antisemitism, the right of the state of Israel to exist, and Jewish life in Germany," a ministry spokesperson confirmed. The test will also assess applicants' commitment to gender equality, democracy, and Germany's historical responsibility towards Judaism in light of its Nazi past. >However, the government's approach has not been without controversy. Its handling of criticism towards Israel's actions in Gaza has sparked a heated debate on free speech, particularly among artists and academics. The resignation of Sabine Döring, junior minister for higher education, following her ministry's exploration of defunding researchers who criticized police actions against anti-Israeli protests, highlights the delicate balance the government is trying to strike. >The new citizenship law has also become a contentious issue for young Muslims in Germany, with officials expressing concern about potential radicalization due to perceived limitations on freedom of expression. >As Germany implements these changes, it faces the challenge of maintaining its commitment to inclusivity while addressing complex geopolitical and social issues. The success of this reform will likely depend on its ability to navigate these tensions and foster a sense of shared values among its increasingly diverse population. > The Times has come **under fire from family members of Gal Abdush, the so-called “girl in the black dress”** who features as Exhibit A in Gettleman and company’s attempt to demonstrate a pattern of rape by Hamas on October 7. Not only have Abdush’s sister and brother-in-law each **denied that she was raped**, the former has accused the Times of manipulating her family into participating by **misleading them about their editorial angle**. > “**The police are having difficulty locating victims of sexual assault from the Hamas attack**, or people who witnessed such attacks, and decided to appeal to the public to encourage those who have information on the matter to come forward and give testimony. Even in the few cases in which the organization collected testimony about sexual offenses committed on October 7, it **failed to connect the acts with the victims who were harmed by them**.” Why are the Israeli police struggling to find witnesses of sexual assault which your paper confidently described on October 7 as so widespread that it demonstrated “a pattern?” > You describe a 24-year-old accountant identified as “Sapir” as “one of the Israeli police’s key witnesses.” **Yet one of Sapir’s key claims undermines the rest of her testimony**. According to the Times, “she saw three other women raped and terrorists carrying the severed heads of three more women.” Given that **no record exists of women being beheaded on October 7**, why did you include this claim from Sapir? Does such an assertion not undermine her credibility and raise doubts about the rest of her testimony? And why, at minimum, did you not mention that there is no forensic evidence to support Sapir’s claim? According to Haaretz, “investigators were unable to identify the women who, according to the testimony of [Sapir] and other eyewitnesses, were raped and murdered.” Israeli Police Superintendent Adi Edry told the paper, “**I have circumstantial evidence**, but ultimately my duty is to find evidence that supports her testimony and to find the victims’ identity. **At this stage I don’t have those specific corpses**.” Select excerpts and emphasis mine.

I found this speech to be very candid and close to a historical materialist perspective. >President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Colleagues, >Today, I want to discuss a broad range of issues with you. >The Defence Minister [Sergei Shoigu] is back from his official trip abroad, and he will brief us on its outcomes and report on the progress of the special military operation. >Of course, we will discuss the situation in the Middle East and issues related to ensuring law and order in Russia. We will discuss what needs to be done to protect the rights of our people, public safety, civil peace and interethnic accord, including in view of external threats. >As you know, at a recent meeting with religious associations’ leaders, I spoke about the attempts to use the dramatic situation in the Middle East and other regional conflicts against our country to destabilise and divide our multi-ethnic and multi-faith society. For this purpose, many different means are being used, including, as we see, lies, provocations and sophisticated techniques of psychological and information aggression. >I want to repeat that those behind the Middle East conflict and other regional conflicts will be using the destructive impact of these conflicts to sow hatred and cause clashes between people around the world. This is the real self-serving aim of such geopolitical puppeteers. >We remember how the current phase of the Middle East crisis began: it was a terrorist attack against Israeli civilians and civilians from other countries who happened to be in Israel at that time. We see that, unfortunately, instead of punishing criminals and terrorists, they started to retaliate according to the principle of collective responsibility. There is no justification for the terrible events taking place in Gaza now, where hundreds of thousands of innocent people are being killed indiscriminately, without having anywhere to flee or hide from the bombing. When you see blood-stained children, dead children, the suffering of women and old people, when you see medics killed, of course, it makes you clench your fists as tears well in your eyes. There is no other way to put it. >However, we should not, we have no right and we cannot allow ourselves to be carried away by emotions. We must clearly understand who in reality is behind the tragedy of peoples in the Middle East and in other regions around the world, who has been organising this lethal chaos and who benefits from it. In my opinion, it has already become clear to everyone, as the masterminds brazenly act in the open. >These are the current ruling elites in the United States and its satellites who are the main beneficiaries of the global instability that they use to extract their bloody rent. Their strategy is also clear. The United States as a global superpower is becoming weaker and is losing its position, and everyone sees and understands this, even judging by the trends in the world economy. The American-style world, with the hegemony of one country, is being destroyed and is receding gradually but inexorably into the past. >However, the United States is unwilling to accept this, and instead seeks to preserve and extend its dominance, its global dictatorship, which is easier to achieve amid such chaos, because the United States believes this chaos will help it contain and destabilise its rivals or, as they put it, their geopolitical opponents, among which they also rank our country, which in reality are new global growth centres and sovereign independent countries who are unwilling to kowtow and play the role of servants. >Today, Russia is not just actively participating in the formation of a new, fairer multipolar world with equal rights and opportunities for all countries and civilisations. We are not only one of the leaders of this objective historical process, but I will say more, and everyone knows this: Russia is fighting on the battlefield for our future, for the principles of a just world order, for the freedom of countries and peoples. We are fighting consistently, and our soldiers and officers, our heroes, are fighting and losing their comrades-in-arms. >I will repeat again: the ruling elites of the United States and its satellites are behind the tragedy of the Palestinians, the massacre in the Middle East in general, the conflict in Ukraine, and many other conflicts in the world – in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and so on. This has become obvious to everyone. It is they who install their military bases everywhere, who use military force on every pretext and without any pretext, who send weapons to conflict areas. They are also channelling financial resources, including to Ukraine and the Middle East, and fuelling hatred in Ukraine and the Middle East. >They are not achieving results on the battlefield, so they want to split us from within, as far as Russia is concerned, to weaken us and sow confusion. They do not want Russia to participate in solving any international or regional problems, including in the Middle East settlement. They are not satisfied at all when someone does not act or speak exactly as they are instructed. They believe only in their own exclusivity, in being allowed to do anything. >They do not need durable peace in the Holy Land; they need constant chaos in the Middle East. Consequently, they are trying hard to discredit countries that are insisting on an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, on ending the bloodshed, and that are ready to make a real contribution to resolving the crisis, rather than parasitising on it. They are even attacking, ostracising and trying to discredit the UN and the clear position of the global community. >I would like to note that, unlike the West, our approaches towards the situation in the Middle East have always lacked mercenary interests, intrigues and double standards. We have stated and continue to openly state our position, which does not change every year. The key to resolving the conflict lies in establishing a sovereign and independent Palestinian state, a full-fledged Palestinian state. We have repeatedly said this openly and honestly during our contacts with the Palestinian and Israeli leaders. >I repeat, the truth is that the stronger Russia becomes and the more consolidated Russian society is, the more effectively will we be able to uphold our own national interests, as well as the interests of the nations that are victimised by the neo-colonial Western policy. >I would like to say once again that we must realise where the root of evil lies. We must know where the spider that is trying to entangle the entire planet and the whole world in its cobweb is. It wants to ensure our strategic defeat on the battlefield, and it is using people on the territory of contemporary Ukraine who have been brainwashed by it for decades. I would like to stress once again that, while fighting this enemy in the course of the special military operation, we are boosting the positions of all those who are struggling for their independence and sovereignty. >The events in Makhachkala last night were instigated also through social networks, not least from Ukraine, by agents of Western intelligences services. I would like to ask myself in this connection: is it possible to help Palestine by trying to attack the Tat people and their families? Tats, by the way, are the titular nation in Daghestan. The only way to help Palestine is to fight those who are behind this tragedy. We, Russia, are fighting them in a special military operation, fighting them for ourselves and for those who seek real, true freedom. >By the way, I never cease to be amazed by the Kiev regime and its overseas masters. We know that Bandera and other henchmen of Hitler have already been put on a pedestal of honour, we know and see how the Ukrainian leadership applauds the Nazis of the Second World War, who were guilty of the Holocaust victims, who personally took part in these crimes, and today, under the guidance of their Western patrons, are trying to instigate pogroms in Russia. By the way, I am not sure whether all the leading circles in the same States are aware of this. It would not be a bad idea for those who care so much about the citizens of Israel to investigate what their security services are doing in Ukraine, whether they are trying to instigate pogroms in Russia. Scum, that’s all. There is no other way to put it. >But those who really stand up for truth and justice, who fight against evil and oppression, against racism and neo-Nazism, which the West encourages, are now fighting at the front – near Donetsk, Avdeyevka, on the Dnieper. I repeat: these are our soldiers and officers. And the choice of a real man, a true warrior, is to take up arms and stand in line with his brothers, to be there where the fate of Russia and, indeed, of the whole world, including the future of the Palestinian people, is being decided. >I want to draw the attention of the heads of all regions, heads of law enforcement agencies and special services to the need for firm, timely and clear action to protect Russia’s constitutional order, the rights and freedoms of our citizens, inter-ethnic and inter-faith accord. >Let us move on to a discussion of all the proposed topics.
