So there were NO guards watching the future king heir?? Wondering if that will be a plot point next week.

Also why is there almost no discussion here? It's a popular show and thought there would be more activity....

I just started Slewfoot! I won't read the spoiler but am definitely feeling the sluggish part. It's still holding my attention though.

It was good and held my attention. Pace and dialogue felt right and the mystery didn't feel too cliche. I was dumb and read the plot for the next two books so I'm not as eager to continue, but I am looking forward to how the next season of the TV series goes.

I know this isn't that important in the grand scheme of things, but I will always be confused on what to put for myself. My family comes from Central America (I have dual citizenship), so I should pick Hispanic, right? But my family is also white Hispanic, my cousin's have a range of blonde and red hair, light eyes. I also have some Asian Hispanics in my family.

Hispanic really isn't a race and it feels like I'm not supposed to pick it on the census because I don't have the right skin color.

Whereas someone who does look Hispanic the way people think of, but maybe their family hasn't lived there for generations, they get to be considered more Hispanic than me. It's just confusing.

Yes! In the spirit of posting, some of the things I'd like to see more engagement in (and I'll do my part) are television, movie, and book communities. On reddit I loved discussing the latest episodes of my favorite shows or hearing about theories in the books I'm reading.

I agree and I also think companies will (or are) going to try more "organic" marketing by going into comments and pretending to be customers and recommend their products.

I thought about that when I went to a new hair salon and in their new customer form one of the questions was "how did you hear about us" and one of the options was Reddit.

I kind of would rather have ads if I had to because they are easier to identify. Now I can't trust people in the Reddit comments.

EUPHORIA Season 3 and Other HBO Shows Pushed Back to 2025

I swear I'm smart and have pretty ok reading comprehension...but when I pick up a new game I have the hardest time understanding the rules and mechanics by just reading the instructions. Watching videos is helpful but I still really only pick it up while playing the game and going through the motions. So I'm slowly collecting games that I can't play until I find people who know how to play. How easily do you pick up new games?

For a moment I was confusing it for the cancelled Apple show Metropolis...I was really looking forward to that. But now I know this movie exists and am excited for it. I love original epic sci-fi!

I just discovered Ground News. It's interesting because they rate news articles from sources based on their biases and factuality.

So for example they will post a headline and list all the news sources reporting on it and rate how left or right leaning it is overall, plus they seem to do a good job with rating how factual it is. I've found it helpful and what I was craving from the news.

This makes me think of the time I went to a haunted maze type place. The friend I was with was pretty terrified (normal reaction) and when one of the costume monsters chased her into a corner with her hiding her face and screaming, a bunch of random people started filming her and putting their phones basically in her face. I yelled at them to leave and they just started filming me.

I just imagine how many YouTube and TikTok videos we are in without us knowing.

The experience reading Good Omens when I was younger is one I want to capture again. I had so much fun and the pages flew by. I like the current series on Prime also.

I had trouble with American Gods for some reason..like my mind kept wandering and I wasn't that into it.

I did like the Guards! Guards! Discworld book...you just reminded me they exist!

Oh yes! I've listened to the audiobook and was captivated. It's now my benchmark for how good narration should be for an audiobook.

The best way I can describe the Howl books are a cozy, blanket by the fireplace feeling. To me it's similar to the movie where the plot is fine but it's more about the atmosphere and tone.

On the Borrowers... I remember the 90s movie, didn't know it was also a book!

It's funny, I just finished watching Nausicaa for the first time and it really felt like there was missing narrative. I loved it but I could tell there was more story missing. I'll check it out!

Also good tip about Earthsea. I have heard of a book before and it sounded good

It looks interesting! How "dense" is it...like are there lots of names to remember or world building to understand? I struggle a bit with that if the plot isn't moving quickly enough.

What books get you out of your reading slump?

I've been in a horrible reading slump for years. I was fine with audiobooks and podcasts but just couldn't concentrate on reading. Finally I've found that Agatha Christie novels hold my attention - they are fast paced, not overly complicated, and got me interacting with the story as I played detective while taking notes on the clues in the story. Now that my reading muscle memory is coming back, I'm able to branch out to more complex books. What type of books break your reading slump?

I'm currently reading the book series that Howls Moving Castle is based on and it's so charming! Some big differences but I feel like the tone is similar. I'm curious what other good ones are out there based on other Ghibli movies.
