Any of the big compound medical words are fun to say and construct IMO. Adrenocorticotropic, deoxyribonucleic, those kinda words. They seem big and scary but they’re quite descriptive and once you know the “formula” behind them it’s not too bad. Maybe not the most fun words but I feel good every time I can use one and deploy it like it’s no big deal (ie my mouth doesn’t fuck it up). It’s like executing a big combo with your mouth.

I love the Metro series; I played 2033 near its release, beaten Exodus three times (once at release and 2x after release of the Enhanced edition) and just recently beat Last Light Redux. I should probably play 2033 Redux now.
Closely related, I’m very excited for STALKER 2; Shadow of Chernobyl was my first love back in 2008 and I’ve played all three of those a bunch of times.

Good rant, thanks for sharing. I felt it was massively over hyped to me also considering the games you mentioned came out well before and had better storytelling, gameplay, and graphics. It was solidly mediocre to me. I did play it through to completion though, maybe a bit of rage-completion there.

Experts determined that the ship’s condition was stable.
Kinda weird to hear the ship talked about in the same language as a human patient in a hospital.

You can’t filter out ions of calcium like that. A huge reverse osmosis system for the entire home would be prohibitively expensive. I used to live in an area with very hard water and everyone had water softeners. You only need to buy the salt every few months and it’s not too bad. RO filters were only connected to a tap on the side of the sink in the kitchen - those membranes aren’t cheap.

I don’t feel Spec Ops: The Line aged well at all. I had it on my to-play list for years and finally got around to playing it. I was rather disappointed in what I experienced. The gunplay and cover system is middling at best, and the story wasn’t anything like the hype led me to believe. Graphics are also way behind its contemporaries. It may have been groundbreaking when it came out in a very pro-war, pro-military time, but it wasn’t anything special by the time I played it 2023. I finished the game wondering what people felt was so special about it. The lack of decision making removed impact from what my character was doing, namely the infamous white phosphorus part. You can’t advance the game without performing the worst possible action, which is the only thing to do at that point in the level. Lame.
Music was good but overall I felt it was a 6/10 game. I think watching YouTube commentaries on the game is much more enjoyable than actually playing it.

Staying dehydrated is a conspiracy started by Big Kidney Stone™ to create more kidney stones. If your urine is any darker than straw color you need to drink water.

I just watched a YouTube video by The Operations Room on the Cologne bombing, it was the first time the allies (possibly anyone?) did a 1000-plane bombing run. Insane scale.

Bad only in a time sense. There’s nothing bad safety wise, slow charging decreases heat and prolongs battery longevity.

I went to court for a traffic ticket and the cop didn’t show up, so I didn’t get charged with anything. Poof, gone. Just be honest and courteous and you’ll be as fine as you can be given the situation.

American here, got stationed in Italy for a few years. Learning Celsius was easy with this in mind:
0 freezing
10 cool
20 nice
30 hot
40 sweltering
If you need to do the actual calculation, double the celsius value, subtract the tens digit (i.e. -10%), add 32. For example:
Double it: 20 * 2 = 40
Subtract the tens digit: 40 - 4 = 36
Add 32: 36+32 = 68

Edit: probably should have read the article before posting

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily overuse of commas, it’s how it consistently uses them the same way in nearly every response. It’s something about the overall structure of what it spits out. I wish a linguist would pop in and break it down for me. It’s a combination of tone, tense, arrangement of the sentences, how the paragraphs are put together - all of it feels very samey to me, unless it’s prompted otherwise.
There’s only a few “styles” of sentences it spits out and to me, it seems quite obvious. Humans don’t write that consistently all the time, they’re messier.

I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but every god damn thing ChatGPT spits out has the same cadence or structure. Something about how it lays out points and wraps it up, and its usage of commas, is so noticeable to me.

I appreciate the insight. Just curious, do you have a link to things I should be disabling in group policy?
Typically I’m not a fan of modifying that much especially registry wise, as I feel this is a cause for many people’s problems, but I’m not uncomfortable making GP changes if they make sense.
I’m currently using W11 Pro activated with massgravel scripts and I’ve got DNS level blocking set up on my network, although I’m not sure how well that does at blocking telemetry. It’s my second line ad block primarily.

I really don’t see the issue with W11. It works fine. As did 10, and 8.1. I’ve not encountered any ads or many of the other shitty things that are constantly reported on.
Is it possible to transfer favorite communities from an account on one server to another? Say for example I'd like to have an alt with the same favorites on another server for a backup. Is this possible with wefwef or other means? Looking to get my main off lemmy.world to help load balance, but I don't want to refavorite everything; if I could somehow keep them in sync that would be ideal.
