I used “Saint Derelict” as a pen name for some poetry in high school, then in college I used it without the Saint as a character name in Numenera, and it stuck as a gamer name. I used it here because my other online handles are either unwieldy or name-based and I didn’t want a new one

We’ve been making them since the beginning of the pandemic, the pattern is based on a store-bought one we took apart, and we’ve made several iterations over the years including making wearable versions. It’s sewn from an airtight fabric (silpoly is the best we’ve worked with, but hard to sew) on a normal sewing machine, and has a continuous fan to keep it inflated

Isn’t tomato-flavored milk just super-creamy tomato soup? That doesn’t seem like a bad thing to me

Having worked on programming auth stuff before, that is absolutely a bug. It may stem from a mistake in planning rather than one in implementation, but that is unambiguously the wrong behavior.

There are a lot of different types of characteristics that get described as 'smart.' Risk aversion is often categorized as 'smart,' as in "I'm too smart to do something that risky," but that is definitely not something billionaires are known for - you can't get that much money without big risky bets paying off.

My neighborhood is very “dog and jog” walkable, and that helps build some connections with neighbors who either have a dog to walk or get out for recreation or exercise, but I wish it were “destination” walkable as well so I could more easily run into neighbors who don’t fall into those categories

Causal connections make a world of difference. A smile and nod at scale can make you feel a part of a community, and it’s so much easier to pause for a conversation when you aren’t in a car

Thanks, that adds a lot of good context! That concern seems less relevant to photography, since there (to my understanding) there isn't usually something copyrightable analogous to an ongoing world/character, but is definitely relevant to the conversation. How long do you think copyright should last? Would term renewals upon addition to a canon make a difference to your opinions? Do you not think your audience would care about whether additions are by the original author?

Does the idea of shortening it to 10 years as others in the thread have suggested scare you as well?

This is one of the bigger speed bumps with lemmy, but hopefully apps/web apps eventually get a smarter way to deal with links to other instances more robust than relying on users using markup
