That's a good practice, and I think you're right that is what they're going for. I don't think that means you shouldn't consider them, but it does lower their value proposition as the bundle is the better deal.

I haven't jumped yet, but the Proton suite is looking more and more appealing. I've been eyeing them as a Gmail replacement, but I've been happy with my VPN and password management providers. As this reduces the bundle makes more sense.

Money is the exit strategy. I hear this kind of misunderstanding a lot when conservatives double down on something that seems against their self interest, like "they're still Albertans, they want a prosperous future for their children too, they just disagree on how to get it"
That's true for the average uninformed propaganda regurgitating voter, but it's not true for the people actually making money from conservative policies. The money they collect makes them hyper mobile. If Alberta crumbles in the future from doubling down on oil and gas they'll just... leave. When you have millions nothing ties you to where you live. They can ditch their property and move to another province, another country, no big deal. That's why they focus on extracting as much value as possible from the land and the populace, because it's expendable to them. They just want to make the most money now while they can.
So they use the idiots, but I don't think the people pushing this line of thinking are the idiots.

I think you need to take a step back and ask if ARM makes sense if you're translating x86 instructions 100% of the time. Unless you're hoping people will develop new games for ARM and you won't use your SD to play existing titles much, but that seems like a 180° shift to me.

It doesn't always scale down though. There's always an efficiency curve so we really can't speculate. I agree, we have to wait and see.

I wouldn't count AMD out. The whole reason the Steam Deck is so successful is because of AMDs Mobile GPU, not necessarily it's CPU. AMD has been able to make some very efficient GPUs lately, so I do belive with a couple new architectures and die shrinks we will get the generational leap they're talking about.
ARM sounds nice, and it might one day be, but getting x86 translation working flawlessly WITHOUT performance/battery costs at the same time as proton is just asking a heck of a lot.
ARM does best when it's doing ARM things. Since all games are built for x86 with nobody having any intention of compiling for native ARM, I don't really see the point. The whole reason i like the Steam Deck is to play older back catalog games, and those are all x86. Apple pulls it off because they only translate x86 when they have to.

Holy shit I need to watch that movie again. It's unfathomable to me how he can play that character with a straight face.

Not defending Apple for bad design, but this has happened before with displays from different manufacturers. The ribbon cable burning from a tight bend was also what killed my first LG Ultrawide.

Yes. There are a couple different ways to do that.

You're correct, but that's not really the point of the origin question. Yes they always could, but why are they doing it now? Why this uptick in meddling?

Man, those cancelation fees look tiny compared to what the United Conservatives are forcing Calgary to swallow.
Canceling projects that are already well into their life cycle is such a collosal waste of money that it's insane conservatives support it.

That's exactly what the GSMA is saying. Universal interoperability means not having to use Google's encryption method, therefore iPhones and all other phones including customized Roms should work.
Now, they could absolutely get in the way of this, but I would hope that they would think it's not worth the effort.

I mean, the post says so in the first sentence. It's a callback reminder in light of the explosive pagers.

People are stupid and easily manipulated, it's that simple. I'm including you or I in this statement as well. We might happen to be paying more attention to politics, but we're likely fooled or mislead in other areas of our lives without noticing.
No one has the bandwidth to pay attention to everything, so naturally some people autopilot on things they feel are too complicated or are uninteresting. When you autopilot then lots of things are taken at face value without critical thought, and without the historical knowledge to easily spot a trend or lie.
So yeah, were stupid and apathetic when viewed as a large group and that's unfortunate. Advertising (propaganda) has been fine tuned over the last 70 some years to exploit our weaknesses exceptionally well. Things will have to get really bad and demand the average person's attention before they will focus it.

Sad to say a few people have already set themselves on fire over this and it was quickly glossed over and forgotten, so even your extreme example isn't guaranteed to do anything.
You've had a couple good replies that answer your question, just thought this was worth pointing out.

That was the traditional meaning of the word, yes. However it has been horribly misused to push headlines and in the legal arena it has been used to push for harder penalties on what would be considered traditional weapons.
It's a pet peve of mine because it dilutes the word, but home made preasure cooker bombs have been called WMDs in the US and people seem OK with it.

You think someone stupid enough to make all the above mistakes would be savvy enough to build PKI and a RADIUS server? You're giving her too much credit.

You may be 100% right in your assessment of the scam. I can't argue otherwise because you deleted the URL, so you win by default.

I have to say I am really disappointed with this hand holding form of moderation, treating me as a child that can't make up my own mind on a product. I was able to find that cat food sold through a reputable pet store and now I can't remember the name because you've deleted it. You've decided your opinion trumps my research and that's not how an open forum for discussion should be.
I know you think that animals are going to be harmed and you're trying to do the right thing, but it's simply overplaying your role and blocking discussion. Imagine going into a BDSM community and telling the people there that what they're doing is harmful and they need to see a psychiatrist. Maybe you could be right? But it's not your call.
You should be stopping hateful speach, bullying, and trying to keep illegal content off the server. Sluthing links and deleting posts because they don't match your opinion is simply not the role of a mod. I don't mean to be rude or insult you personally, but these kinds of actions matter and really make me reconsider if this is a community I want to be a part of if it is run this way.

Reading the article it sounds like it's both.
Protesters scuffle with police, try to break through a barricade. They’re chanting “shame,” “Ben Gvir is a terrorist” and “where were you at Sde Teiman,” the infamous prison where Palestinian prisoners were abused, at the cops
With Chromecasts being discontinued, increase in ads, telemetry, etc I'm wondering if anyone else is going back to old school HTPCs or if they have some other solution to do this in house. I think the options here are likely: 1. Rooted streamer (ie Chromecast, firestick) 2. Android Box 3. Mini PC I'm actually most interested in experimenting with #3, a mini PC running KDE Plasma Bigscreen. Most of my self hosted apps can be run in browser windows, and a full desktop (while harder to navigate) is better than the browsers you can get on Android. What is everyone esle, especially the privacy / de-googled self hosters doing for their media front end?
Looking at the charging preferences of the Steam Deck, which from my research wants 45W at 15v/3A, it looks like the larger model should work just fine. And with it being $15 USD / $18 CAD this could be an incredible bargain. It's so new though I can't find any info on it being used with a Steam Deck. I'll definitely be grabbing one to try, as it would be perfect for my USB hub that sits by the TV.
