I'm a Marvel guy, so I'm definitely interested in these Secret Lairs... But they're limited print again, so they'll be sold out within an hour and then scalped for 4x the price. Yay.

Dodger fan here. I wouldn't count any chickens before they hatch. 3-1 is a good lead, but it's led to a series upset something like 14 times in MLB postseasons. And the Dodgers leading 3-2 is an even more tenuous situation than it appears. Game 6 will likely be a bullpen game, and game 7 will be Buehler, with maybe Yamamoto coming in relief if absolutely necessary. Today was LA's best remaining pitcher matchup, and the pitching staff couldn't record a single strikeout.
Also, it has been 11 times in over a century of baseball. It hasn't been a recent matchup that people would be tired of, it's just the usual complaints/griping about large market teams.

I've never used 8bitDo products before, but have ordered an Ultimate Controller from them (on sale). Are their products not reliable?

I know ownership will never be loved by the fans, but I do believe that as a sport, baseball is better when the owners care about the game rather than treating it purely as an investment.

Max Fried, huh.
I guess the big question is, what starting pitchers are available as FAs this winter? Because starting pitching is always in demand. I could see the Red Sox possibly paying over market value but I could just add easily see most of the NL West go for that, or the Cubs or any of the fringe contenders who just missed the postseason this year.

I do find myself commenting more on smaller communities, mostly because they're more aligned with my niche interests. And larger communities get toxic really fast; politics and news just get so, so messy.
If I had to guess, half of my posts are just on the MtG instance, which doesn't quite have critical mass for discussion yet.
I should probably tune in for weekly "What are you reading/playing/watching" threads a little more often.

Good sound design in games makes playing the game a reward in itself!

I remember spending a long time (probably 2-3 years) on Reddit as a lurker before starting to comment on things. Posting was an even bigger hurdle to get over.
There is no karma system, so there isn't any "reward" for submitting posts other than getting to inform people and potentially spark discussions. Similarly, comments are basically only good if you actually get responses. When there's such little activity going on, it gets pretty unlikely, unless a group of people just start forcing themselves to respond to others.

It's a real shame; Irvine has lots of great food, and it's another large east-Asian population center within the LA-OC metro area, but it's also so staunchly Republican that I can't stand to watch local news down there.
That's nothing against the university, though. I have family who got their degrees there, and I even took summer classes on campus once. I dig the school and it was my fallback when I applied for colleges (back when it was possible to have a fallback).

Logen is in all 3 books of the trilogy, and plays prominent roles in all of them. It's just a matter of the constantly shifting perspectives.
https://www.twitch.tv/starcitygames Format is Pioneer, and from what I know of the meta, we should be seeing lots of Phoenix and Rakdos, with maybe some Azorius Control looking to go over the top. Who are y'all rooting for? What rogue deck do you hope succeeds?

I'm with you, the ending of the 3rd book deflated me and actually lowered my opinions on the first 2 books. I'm curious whether the follow-up books do anything to fix it, but I can't find the motivation to read them now.

This week has been a bit of UFO 50 and Terra Memoria.
UFO 50 hasn't hooked me with a single specific game yet, but the entire package together is incredibly compelling and fun. It's just neat to hop in, play half an hour of a game that makes me think back to playing on my dad's NES, and then put it down for something else, much like how I played when I was 5 or 6.
I'm still very early on in Terra Memoria, but I think it's pretty neat! I like the combat system as they've introduced it so far, and it looks like there will be a lot of depth and choices to make in combat or team-building (maybe). Something about turn-based RPGs feel perfectly suited for the Deck.

I was gifted Tokaido for Christmas, and while I haven't played a game of it yet, I've gone through the rules and simulated a few turns, and it doesn't feel interactive or exciting. It feels fairly solitary, aside from the entire "do I want to be ahead of the group and get the bonuses, or trail in the back and get more actions?"
On the other hand, my playgroup has largely enjoyed Wingspan and Wyrmspan. Wyrmspan specifically felt like a good step forward, because the resources felt much tighter, and it felt like there were various approaches to the game that could work well.

I haven't delved into this game much, and I'm not well-versed in 40K lore, but do you only get to play as the Ultramarines, or do they have other legions/chapters to customize as?
Hi folks! It's been quiet in here for a while, maybe because none of us post, and the bot seems to be broken. Anyways, who's going to any postseason games this year? And what are your hopes, thoughts, expectations, and fears this year? I'll start: I hope (of course) for the World Series win. I'm tired of other fanbases whining about our "Mickey Mouse" ring when we know it was the toughest postseason in history. In reality, it'll be tough to get past the Padres (they've had our number all year) and the Phillies are high-key scary this year between their star acquisitions and their rookies and homegrown players really finding their stride. I'm not planning on attending any this year, but I did get myself season tickets for next season, so maybe there'll be a chance then. Yes, it's absurd that I'm already planning on the 2025 Dodgers to make it.

I'm a huge Pete Rose hater. I don't think gambling should be associated with baseball, and hate all the stupid gambling sponsors and ads going on.
Now that he's passed, I'm torn between putting him in the hall cuz his career was indeed hall-worthy, or keeping him out since he broke the cardinal sin of baseball.
He'll see none of the glory, taste none of the praise, and give no speeches. Is that enough? Or does it set a bad example for future players (or even kids) that gambling is forgivable?

I think it's a shame it had to come to this. I trusted the RC and CAG to make good decisions for the direction of Commander, and there will always be a risk of business execs higher than Gavin and MaRo pushing things to maximize profits, but I also understand why it had to be done. People apparently just can't be civil online.
This talk was a good look into who the format will be resting with, and it's encouraging, at least. They look like they're putting a lot of thought into how they want people to approach Commander, even if I think the entire tier system is wonky. I have some decks that are full of absolute junk and fun cards, but of course they have to run some efficient cards, whether it's removal or ramp, and if those are tier 4 and the rest of my deck plays like a 2, it would be frustrating to have to label it as a 4. Overall, it should just be a shortcut to indicate the general strength or speed of the deck, so people can all have fun in a game. It shouldn't replace rule 0, that's for sure.
Anyone else feel that? Felt like 3 seconds of rumble over in the SGV. Edit: [Here's the USGS report.](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci40611087/executive)
It's a Smissmas Miracle! Cool little patch that I might reinstall TF2 to try out. Anything in here look exciting to you?
Not confirmed yet, but reports are saying Dodgers are getting Lance Lynn and old friend Joe Kelly. Both of them have struggled a bit this year, but having a few more arms might be beneficial, and who knows, maybe Prior can fix them. Dodgers reportedly give up Trayce Thompson, Nick Nastrini, and Jordan Leasure. How do y'all feel about the trade? Does it feel like the right move to make right before the deadline?
I know that I really want a few more Great Henges and my first Doubling Season, because I'm a green mage at heart. Some more Heroic Interventions would be nice, too. My Miirym deck could use a Balefire Dragon, because I've had games where my dragons just get overrun by small creatures. Its a bit of a small want, but my Meren deck could use a Nyx Weaver. Lastly, I just need more staples overall, as a newer brewer. I need every Arcane Signet, Command Tower, and Sol Ring I can get my hands on!
Hi, this sounds like a dumb question, but how should I "get into" coffee? Most of the time, I just use a Keurig and whatever pods I find at Costco. I know there's an entire world out there of people who know exactly what they're doing, but it's all quite confusing. If I'm typically only ever making coffee for myself, what should my brewing method be? Nespresso? Pour-over? French press? And should I be looking to try everything black, or are lattes and whatnot a good way to learn what my tastes are?
