Yeah maybe not calling out your fans on making things that build excitement for your upcoming project is the best course of action as an actor. It's like Daisy Ridley calling out Star Wars fans for having the wrong body shape in cosplay or something else equally stupid. They're fans. They're having fun. You don't get to tell your fans how they're supposed to enjoy your work.

Correct. I dismiss her feelings. We're just going in circles now. I dismiss her feelings, because they are something again that she needs to deal with, not me, not her audience. She said what she wanted to say, I say that she was wrong and vain to do so. Her simply "having feelings" does not make her suddenly perfect and right. She was wrong jump to conclusions that she was being erased. She was wrong to call out a fan who just made a poster and assume that they were doing it as a personal slight. She was petty for not just ignoring the thing and moving on with her life. Those are all of my feelings, does that make me right too? We can all have our own feelings, and we've evolved a bit into being allowed to express them. However the same adage applies, my freedom ends where my fist ends and your face begins. Same thing here. Her feelings are valid - internally. Making them public like this exposes her to criticism, which I now have a lot of. If she didn't want that criticism she was welcome to not say anything.

Being critical of someone does not remove their humanity.

Her feelings are unjustified and come off as narcissistic. I would be more open to the idea that she was being erased if she wasn't on literally every other poster for the movie. Fans made a poster that they felt more closely resembles the original poster from the franchise that was made over 20 years ago. To assume anything else is a very large stretch.

For her to react this negatively over a fan making their own version of a poster says a great deal more about her, and to me does more damage to her reputation than a poster ever could.

There are literally entire sites and databases dedicated to fan generated poster art. The entire Harry Potter series has thousands of posters that don't include the actors faces and are based off the books. Are those "erasing" the actors? Have we seen Ian mckellan go on a tirade because fans made a two towers poster that doesn't include his face? No, because it's not about them and they don't care.

If her feelings are hurt over one tiny person making a poster that doesn't include her face then that's her problem she needs to tackle herself, not dump on the people who were excited to see her play elphaba.

So yeah. I'm not accepting the victim blaming title because i don't see her as a victim. She made herself a victim in her own mind when one fan did this. You know who I see as the victim? The fan who was probably really excited to see this movie, so excited they made their own poster, and then had the Hollywood celebrity call them out publicly who now has people like you defending her for basically calling this person (who again all we know is just a super big Wicked fan) basically the devil

Literally all she had to do was nothing and it would have passed with no one noticing.

She's literally playing a fantasy witch who has already been played by dozens of other actresses. She's the only one out of all of the previous ones to get upset about this.

If she wants to be noticed for her face, then playing an iconic villain who has been played so many times before isn't her place to be. Fans care about elphaba, her character. She is new to the franchise and making demands of fans who have loved the character much longer than she's been in it.

Okay so, first you should post on !satisfactory@lemmy.world.

That being said, congrats your factory has officially grown to a large state. 4 cores will NOT be enough to run this game. If you look at htop or something you can see full cpu usage, I'm guessing you'll see one core pinned at 100%

To understand how the server works, it chunks the entire game map and then shards that across available cores. So your 4 core server each core is handling a quarter of the map. That's a lot of factory on one core kemosabe. My server is a 24 core beast with still very high single core rates. You can feel when you're working on another core that has less load when you walk into a new area and your frame rate jumps.

My group has had several iterations of our server, from being on shared resources, to a 48 core thread ripper (plenty of cores but single clock speed wasn't enough), to finally we bought a 5950x for our Update 8 factory - and even then you're still going to notice some rubber banding when you get to late game/factory spans across the entire map big.

Now, thinking about it too, is this happening at intervals? If so, that's your saves happening. As your saves get larger the auto save will take longer, and that means longer time the client doesn't talk to the server, so it rubber bands your last known server positions. If it takes too long the client will disconnect. To fix this just update how long it is allowed before timing out, that's on the dedicated server wiki. We usually call out when a save is about to happen and take it as a break to stand up, stretch, and get more coffee.

Beyond getting more cores and a higher single core clock speed, the other massive thing that will help is spreading your factory out. Allowing your factory to take advantage of multiple chunks and multiple cores will have a noticeable impact. Make very liberal use of trains, my last factory had over 60 rail lines and 100 trains running around. It's a lot easier to manage a train car with 10,000 items stored as an integer than hundreds of miles of interconnected belts that it constantly has to shift around on.

I'll have more info later, should probably write a wiki, but those few changes will have a noticeable impact.

Source, I've ran a dedicated satisfactory server for about 4 years now, on bare iron, docker, and in kubernetes. Helped many others set up their servers too

I always said the Harry Potter movies should have been a series, each book getting a mini 6 episode season or something.

It really sounds like this was a sticking point to her. I said elsewhere, but it really sounds like she's the one who forced her full face to be seen on the poster, or at least that's the impression she leaves us with after reading this.

Which makes me think that the original design was closer to the original, and sounds like she made a stink about it.

Hey folks! For those new to Satisfactory with 1.0 a couple of people have pinged me asking questions. So first off, hello, I'm Scrubbles, I have with my latest factory now just over 2000 hours in game, I absolutely love this game. I'm a mod here, and for our newcomers welcome! So, this post was from earlier this year when someone asked how to do multiplayer. I want to preface everything by saying **there is no right or wrong way to play Satisfactory**. Everyone does it a little differently, from a spaghetti mess to perfect 90 degree angles. That being said, those differences have caused issues in our multiplayer games, so for those who are getting started - _if_ you are interested, here are some of the things my friends and I do while playing multiplayer. _Adjustments are welcome, and feedback. If people like this, I personally think it's useful to pin, but I don't want to self promote... so let me know if you think it's worth that_ ## Scrubbles' unofficial multiplayer "Rules" for Satisfactory #### 1) Clipping or No Clipping. This is a group decision, but we feel that it's more challenging and looks better if we force ourselves not to clip. (or at least avoid it at all costs). Builds are bigger, more complex, and it comes out looking nice ![Picture of clipping conveyor belts](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpoptalk.scrubbles.tech%2Fapi%2Fv3%2Fimage_proxy%3Furl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fpreview.redd.it%252Fi-love-the-allowed-clipping-with-parts-v0-anls2u7ggtaa1.jpg%253Fwidth%253D1080%2526crop%253Dsmart%2526auto%253Dwebp%2526s%253D2d4e3067f4859f76114f88c86f7b24bb630d4ff0) #### 2) Build buildings. Cover up your builds. Group builds will get _huge_ and there is a performance hit if you have all of your buildings out in the open. If you leave buildings out in the open, the engine has to draw everything, even in the low poly far away ones, it's a lot to draw. Walls make it much easier to draw, and will keep those framerates up. This doesn't really matter until Tier 3 or so, but after that yeah it's pretty important. (Our Gold Coast oil production can span the entire coast, and the game will have to show all of that if you don't build some nice buildings. Also it just looks pretty cool if you put some thought into it. #### 3) Private vs Group builds This is the big one you talked about and you just have to go over it. There are no good rules for "Don't touch my stuff" as all groups are different, but we have a good baseline of - If you want to take on a build - then awesome you should feel all empowered to do so. No one should come in and change your build, of course unless asked - HOWEVER - we all play at a different pace. We like to joke that this isn't work... but at the same time if you say you're going to produce 100 steel beams/min, I'm going to build my build based on those numbers. We have a pseudo AFK rule, if you leave the game and don't give a good time of when the build will be finished, there are no hurt feelings if someone else jumps in and finishes it for you. It was there for you, you chose not to log in one day, and that's going to have to be okay. - Also another unspoken exception we have, if you fuck something up, get the math wrong, or our favorite where sometimes conveyors/pipes don't "stitch" together there are no hurt feelings if someone comes in and fixes it. I can play 16 hours in a day when I'm really into it. Other folks may not log in once that day, it's just a thing we have to talk about and understand. I don't expect them to be logged in 16 hours a day with me to finish their build, but if they're AFK for a couple of days and I need it... well, yeah I may go finish it. ## Rail Network Those are the only "rules" we have. As for a rail system, I'd recommend personally that someone "takes charge" in planning rail and hooking up factories. Someone who has the entire network in their head on how things are moving. Everyone should be welcome to help, but rail networks get complicated fast and it's good to have a point (wo)man. A good way to help organize this I've found is to make a "Departures Board" of all of your trains, especially at hubs, so make any sense out of what is happening. Just like the real ones ![Image of a UK departurees board](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpoptalk.scrubbles.tech%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F87166fe4-0d53-4e59-8441-1779dfb3da5e.png) You too can put some up that explains where resources are going in or out. ![A list of all trains, their destinations, and what cargo they carry](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpoptalk.scrubbles.tech%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fa1d07759-3382-4c0e-900a-c1665c6677b8.jpeg) ## Hub Finally, make transportation and the Hub a big focal point. Make it fun. For our last build we made the Hub separate from our main construction, and moved all of our train hubs there. ~~That also made it perfect for building our warehouse~~ _(1.0 edit, I wonder what will happen with warehousing...)_, and on top of that we put the center of our hypertube network. Make it a fun place to stop in, and make it easy to craft new gear there if you get stranded. This is especially important in multiplayer so your friends aren't going "Where the hell did Scrubbles put the chest of Encased Steel Beams?!" ![Make a good, easy to access warehouse](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpoptalk.scrubbles.tech%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F1b36b9f2-1d0f-41d6-b344-ff224465c188.jpeg) Also, make a good **todo board**, so everyone knows what everyone is doing. Try to make it easy and clean to understand. We chose this format ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpoptalk.scrubbles.tech%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F442a5f2b-0728-40f2-bb49-f5ea1fc6b9ca.jpeg) It keeps everyone aware of what people are working on and cuts down on duplicated effort. ## Server Maintenance Your factory server _will_ crash. It just will. Once our factory got large enough in Update 7 it happened probably once a day. Know that _someone_ is going to need to be on call - or you're going to all need access to the server and know how to spin it up if it crashes. Keep backups of the saves in a neutral places anyone can access so if someone accidentally nukes the server you can at least have the saves. (I personally recommend setting up `rclone` or something to sync your saves somewhere like google drive) ## Summing up Finally, always find ways to keep morale up. Ficsit demands morale be just high enough to remain productive. Give helpful reminders to your friends whenever possible. ![Signs in our Hub that say "You enjoy this." and "You are having fun.](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpoptalk.scrubbles.tech%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F78c510b6-c924-408c-9ad3-825a8a9df79a.jpeg) That's all I have! Have fun on your next factory, and remember, _remain efficient_.

    LTO-8 Drives

Hey folks, I'm lucky enough to be in one of the few places on the internet that uses LTO. I'm running LTO-8 tape. My current drive is kind of a dud, I'm interested in a new (to me) drive. Either internal in just an old desktop, or an external drive. I'm not afraid to shell out for it, but if I am I'm nervous to drop 2000 on just a random ebay seller. Anyone have any reputable sources? In the Seattle area if anyone knows a local one too.
