Joyless money-hoarding is why I'm currently able to joylessly pay rent during this terrifying bout of unemployment

You write prose in Vim? What kinds of plugins do you use for that?

Even if you get published, it's likely that nobody will read it. Do people still read magazines? I'm not sure what the formula for success is now.
Please tell me if you think this would be useful for you. I'm working on a story plotting app which focuses on **value changes** as the basis of the app. For each section of the story (beat, chapter, act) there are value changes (characters getting closer or further from some goal, threat, or other value). And I want to visualise these changes on a graph, so you can see how everybody's fortunes rise and fall. There will still be the standard components, something similar to index cards to plot out the actual action of each chapter and beat. But the unique addition that I'm bringing here is you can see everybody's changes of fortune, like watching the stock market, or maybe like reading music. It will be a desktop application (written in python and JavaScript). So, does anybody think this would be useful to your writing? Are there other things you might want to see added to such a piece of software?

I prefer pay walls if I can buy a single article. I hate how everything is a subscription now.

They are going to regret this.
I really hope they do. But now is a good time to put the squeeze on devs. Lots of people are having a hard time finding a software job and they'll be extra reluctant to do a mass exodus.

Why do you need curtains on your windows?
To make sure the whole world isn't just a window for the HR department. I can have "dissident" views, or just talk trash with my friends, and not get fired since it wasn't at the office.
To make sure real dissidents (from totalitarian countries) can express their political views.
So a lady can send her husband feet pics without some secret agent spy gawking at them too.
So I can share my family's secret BBQ sauce recipe with my cousin without Arby's stealing it (they have eyes everywhere).
But these are all specific things. The truth is that we simply cannot trust institutions with all our data. I don't need a reason for privacy. They need a reason to have my info. Security is a legit reason to seek citizens' info, generally, but you should need a specific security-related reason to access a specific person's data.

The videos are AI because I don't have any money. The novel is written by myself, me, a human being who has no money because I spent the last three years writing a novel.
Edit:
the voice is also me, a human, who spent months huddled in a closet narrating the audiobook version.

I planned this book for 20 years, spent 4 years researching, writing, editing, and narrating it. The paperback, e-book, and audio versions will be available on October 21!

I would greatly prefer public sector development. I'm just being fatalistic about how our oligarchy conducts itself.

I like democracy, but I don't like our short-sighted (4-8 year) election-campaign-based governing. But between our public and private sectors I know we can meet this challenge and make this happen.

Man, I wish we (Canada) were that ambitious. I know lemmy hates Elon Musk but I really admire his ambition in technical pursuits. I'm not saying we need more Elon Musks, but we should pursue more grand projects.

All my jobs have been paycheck-to-paycheck until about 3 years ago. My last job allowed me to save up $24k, but then I lost my job. Now I'm down to $7k and getting worried.

They should mind their own business and stop pretending to be asleep.
I'm in Canada, so options available in Canada are especially appreciated.
