If the US had a single transferable vote system then you could comfortably vote for a third party, if you wanted to, without helping out the opponent you dislike the most.

You just rank the candidates, so you could rank Jill Stein as 1 if you want, then Harris as 2, and Trump below that. So then if Stein has fewer votes than Harris and Trump each have (likely) then her votes would transfer to whoever her voters ranked 2nd.

Under this system, a third party candidate is more likely to win (maybe you don't like Jill Stein, but conceivably a third party could produce a good candidate). The ballot under this system looks like this:

I feel like the West is just doing the bare minimum to support Ukraine. Enough to be able to say "look we did something" but not too much, because maybe some voters won't understand the benefits of spending their taxes on Ukraine.

Ah thanks those links do work. Some of that stuff is interesting, like this graph from the Cambridge link, with middle income people carrying the GOP:

Good PSA. Personally I'm not that worried because

    1. I don't use Instagram
    2. Firefox has an option to copy links without site tracking, which hopefully would work on Instagram links
    3. I try to only write stuff online that wouldn't be massively embarrassing if anyone does happen to figure out who I am

Every one of those links gives me 404: not found... do they work for you? I am in the UK but that shouldn't be a problem because I can normally access stuff from Pew, NYT, and WaPo.

I might try uBlock Origin Lite, then if it doesn't work very well then maybe I'll just use Firefox

I guess Google are betting that only a small segment of power users will switch to Firefox, while the mass of ordinary people won't be bothered enough to switch.

Yeah okay that's true. I just thought that some distros will be more difficult to try out, but yes you're right, it's probably best if people just do what they want.

I saw this posted on Hacker News today, a short manifesto encouraging people to try new things, and to not worry about how long you stick with new things.

True. I guess any of the big distros (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Mint) are fine for beginners and then they can learn what they like from there.

True. I was just wondering about EVs I've seen driving around. If I actually drove them maybe my views would change. But I would still try to avoid Tesla.

Well I'm just saying there's certainly a lot of statistics I haven't seen.

Also in the Pew polling I linked to, it shows the Democrat lead among black college grads increasing between the 2018 mid-terms and 2020. It's only a 1 point difference but at least it hasn't gone backwards.

Maybe the Dems are doing better with more educated voters, but not necessarily white ones. I dunno. I guess for these matters a person would have to see lots of data points to really understand the trends going on.

Here's just one source but it shows the Dems' lead over the GOP declining among white college grads between 2016 and 2020. But the Dems' lead over the GOP among all college grads, of any race, increased between those elections.

Sure that's only one source. Maybe there are polls supporting what you say, I dunno. I could be totally wrong with what I'm saying.

the Democrats are slowly becoming the party of affluent, educated white voters

Except if your name is Elon Musk, or Peter Thiel, or David Sacks, or you're an affluent educated white supporter of them...

Some of your points might well be supported by polling (I don't know enough to say) but I'm sure there are plenty of affluent educated whites who support Trump.
