My experience, there have been probably 2-3 instances that soak up and revel in the drama (for both microblogging and Lemmy) - everyone else just blocks bad actors like normal and moves on with their lives.

Yeah I recently went back to Linux as a daily driver and was blown away how easy stuff like flatpaks made it to do everything I need quickly. That wasn’t the case last time I used Linux for something more than a quick and dirty VM host.

  • Hi all, It's been a fun few months, but I wanted to let everyone know that I'll be shutting down links.dartboard.social on 1/1/24. I wanted to give everyone a month to make arrangements with other communities. At some point in October we had a data loss due to some stupid administration decisions I made when doing an update. I realized my heart was not in maintaining this place; I'm much more in tune with the microblog side of the fediverse (find me at @knova@lostcreek.social). As such, I'll be shuttering this community and creating a casual account for myself on another instance to continue my lurking. I'm not sure what the next best camping-and-hiking community is on the fediverse but we collectively have 30 days to find it together. Thanks to everyone who posted content and engaged with each other for the last few months.

How are you all playing these insanely complex games?

If you want a calm group of people to play with, DM me and we can trade Steam information (assuming you use that platform) - we typically need a 4th player anyway

I’m curious why you think Deep Rock Galactic is complex. It’s one of the most “pick up and play” friendly games, I think, that I own.

Hah… my problem became that I’d get three different answers from three different forecast services. So I figured I’d do it myself and then I only have myself to blame if the weather isn’t what I expected.

Funny enough, Phish was going to have this at their 2018 festival “Curveball” (cancelled due to intense rains, flooding, and sewage problems in western NY where the festival was taking place). The drummer (Fish) talked about this at some point, I think on a podcast… anyway, they were going to have a shortcut back to the tent camping area but it would have crossed a “mime field”, where dozens of paid mimes would be messing with all the phans coming down off their highs on the way back from the show each night.

Had to reinstall Lemmy - did I break federation?

I’m wondering if this post will even go through**. Long story short, I had to rebuild my Lemmy instance without importing the old data. I manually recreated my account (Knova@links.dartboard.social) and was able to subscribe to communities (although everything says “subscription pending”*). But it doesn’t seem like my posts federate properly. *additionally, a third party Lemmy app I use does not recognize my subscriptions when they are in this pending state, further driving me to conclude it’s broken. I made a new account on my instance to see if things were broken, and under a new name things seem to be working. Is my original username doomed to purgatory? **test - posted this originally from the KNova account but doesnt look like it hit the lemmy.ml server. See here - https://links.dartboard.social/post/7176 - trying to repost from my other account now.
